Professor Sun-Yuan Kung of Princeton University, and Professor Zhu Wenwu of Tsinghua University visited Jilin University’s College of Communication Engineering from July 6-11, 2012, at the College’s invitation. During their stay, the “academic symposium on computer vision and cloud computing” was held, and the two visiting scholars delivered thought-provoking and engaging reports.
Professor Sun-Yuan Kung received his PhD. from Stanford University in 1977. He is currently a Professor of the Electrical Engineering Department at Princeton University, an IEEE Fellow, and he also currently serves on the IEEE Technical Committees on VLSI Signal Processing and Neural Networks. Professor Sun-Yuan Kung used to be a professor of the Electrical Engineering Department at South California University, and the editor in chief of the Journal of VLSI Signal Processing. A prolific researcher, he has published some 400 technical articles, and complied many works, including VLSI and Modern Signal Processing, Digital Neuroscience, to name a few.
Professor Zhu Wenwu is currently a Professor and Vice Chair of Tsinghua University’s Department of Computer Science and Technology. Prior to that, he held multiple positions, such as Chief Scientist and Research Manager of Microsoft Research Asia, the Chief Scientist of Intel Research China, and researcher of Bell Labs New Jersey. Like his companion, Professor Zhu is also an IEEE Fellow. His current research interest lies in multimedia networking and communication, which includes multimedia cloud computing, socialized media, wireless multimedia telecommunication and the like. He has published some 200 articles, and owned over 40 international patents.
At the invitation of the College of Communication Engineering, Professor Sun-Yuan Kung and Professor Zhu Wenwu enlightened the audience with their academic reports, respectively Kernel Machine Learning Methods for Green IT Applications and Social Media Cloud Computing and its Recommendation Application. Associate Professor Zhao Yan of the College of Communication Engineering, and Associate Professor Jin Fushou of College of Computer Science and Technology also made academic speeches. Students and Faculties of Jinlin University’s College of Communication Engineering, College of Computer Science and Technology, and Changchun University of Technology’s College of Computer Science attended the symposium and listened to the reports.
